Sheave Re-Rim

Many machines working today weren’t manufactured with easy sheave maintenance such as groove reconditioning (re-grooving) or sheave replacement as an engineering design goal. As a result, the sheave was cast as an integrated section of the spider. This process and design requires an elevator contractor to replace the entire spider assembly rather than just addressing the worn sheave.

Over three decades ago, here at Titan Machine, we developed a low tech method of addressing this issue for our customers. The existing spider’s sheave section is machined off and the surface is prepared for mounting a new sheave “rim”. That rim is machined to match the exact diameter and roping configuration of the original sample. Once mounted and fastened to the existing spider, the new sheave acts as a modern de-mountable sheave and affords the contractor the easy maintenance and serviceability common to most modern equipment and necessary to keep maintenance costs down.
